Sweet Home Rhodochrosite

One sweet, gemmy, rhombohedral crystal, it is vibrantly pink and translucent. An exquisite example of the Rhodochrosite from the famous Sweet Home Mine, near Alma, Colorado. 0.9 grams,1.2 x 1.2 x 0.6cm.

The Sweet Home mine produced some of the best Rhodochrosites in the world.  Originally a silver mine from 1873 to 1966, it was mined for Rhodochrosite specimens until 2004 when the company that owned it finished their operation and – as part of their clean-up – sealed the entrance.  Recently, mining has begun again to produce these highly sought after mineral specimens and you can find much more exquisite and expensive examples of their Rhodochrosite at Collector’s Edge
