Lokkaite-(Y)

$8,500

This is as expensive as it is because this is out of the American Museum of Natural History collection, and because it’s a primary source of Dysprosium as it’s found naturally, and because there are only three known and named minerals which contain significant quantities of Dysprosium, and because this specific mineral is very rare and found in only 11 locations around the world, but most importantly, this is the ONLY ONE available for sale anywhere on the internet to the best of ColoRockCo’s knowledge at the moment… if you may have more of this mineral near you, please send a message!

Description

The previous seller described this incredible specimen with the following:
“Submillimeter white crystals of the very rare carbonate Lokkaite-(Y), for which the formula is Ca(Y,Gd,Nd,Dy)4(CO3)7 · 9H2O are present as shown on this 2.6 cm. x 2 cm. x .6 cm. specimen. It was previously studied at the Amercian Museum of Natural History. That provenance traces to the red and white label affixed to the bottom of the black plastic base of the standard thumbnail display case in which it is displayed.”
