Description
Iodargyrite has a hardness of 1.5-2 and a specific gravity of 5.69. It gets its name for having Iodine and Silver in its composition and was first published in 1825. There’s around 300-400 localities worldwide where this has been found historically, with six in Colorado. Iodargyrite forms as a secondary mineral in oxidized silver-bearing deposits, typical presenting as a yellow, greenish yellow, brownish, grayish or colorless mineral.
At 54% Iodine and 46% Silver, this makes for one cool specimen for element collectors! Additionally, Iodargyrite is possibly the most famous and most well-known of all of the 32 named minerals which contain Iodine.
