Description
Cuprorhodsite has a hardness of 5 – 5½ and a specific gravity of 5.88. It was named by N. S. Rudashevskii, Y. P. Men’shikov, A. G. Mochalov, N. V. Trubkin, N. I. Shumskaya, and V. V. Zhdanov in 1985 for its chemical composition.
Cuprorhodsite is found in roughly 50 places worldwide in alluvial placers with one in Alaska and one in Minnesota, but none yet have been identified within Colorado, so be sure to keep your eyes out for a tiny, shiny, metallic-looking grain in the river sands while out walking around or panning for gold!
Cuprorhodsite is one of the 25 known and named minerals which contain Rhodium, and this Cuprorhodsite specimen is the ONLY one available for sale online anywhere that can be found! If you do happen to find anymore Rhodium-bearing minerals, please be sure to let ColoRockCo know! Because this is so rare, it’s not cheap, but hopefully, it’s just the first of many more to come! This is a holy grail for element collectors, and an exceptionally rare specimen!
It’s a little difficult to distinguish this little speck from other silvery metals, and it’s a little difficult to know whether you’ve found Rhodium without an analysis performed on it, but as Rhodium is currently selling for around twice the price of gold, be sure to keep your eyes out for something like this and you can make a new discovery and possibly get very rich, as well!
