Topaz

Description

Topaz has a hardness of 8 and a specific gravity of 3.4-3.6. Topaz was named after the Topasos Island in the Red Sea. In antique times, the name was probably used for the gemstone that is now known as Peridot, according to Mindat.

Makes for a brilliant Aluminum sample, and a great crystal to add to your collection!

While you can find Topaz in Colorado, you can’t quite find Topaz like this, and that’s just one of the reasons why Utah is famous for its rocks! It’s not known from which of the mines exactly that this originally came, but near to where this likely was unearthed, you can often find Bixbyite and Red Beryl, as well!
