Description

Green Epidote (CaAlFeSiOH) and Pink Orthoclase (KAlSiO) are both pretty common, found all over the world, usually in Metamorphic rocks. This makes a pretty cool sample if you’re collecting elements and want something green to throw into your Iron or Aluminum or Calcium or Potassium or Silicon/Oxygen/Hydrogen slots. Named in 1801 by Rene Just Haüy from the Greek “επιδοσιζ” (epidosis), meaning “increase”, in reference to the crystal characteristic of one longer side at the base of the prism. Epidote crystals can be quite exquisite and get to be pretty expensive, but this is a cheaper representation of a safe green rock, an abundant rock for your element collection, an easier to find rock that should be somewhere near you.
