Cerussite

$40.00

Cerussite is an important lead ore, and its lead content is even why it was named Cerussite by Conrad Gessner in 1565, the Latin word cerussa means white lead. You can bring it home, but otherwise, not much is known about from where this originally came. It’s usually colorless, white, gray, blue, or green. It leaves a white streak, has a hardness of 3 – 3½ on the Mohs scale, it fractures conchoidally and it has a SG of around 6.53 – 6.57. It’s a common weathering product of Galena and other lead minerals, and it’s found nearly everywhere. Because lead is a heavy metal, you shouldn’t let kids play with this rock, and you should definitely wash your hands after holding this rock and especially before eating. You should definitely not crush this up and inhale any dust, or ingest this in any other way.
